Introducing the Lineolated
Parakeet!!
The “Linnie” as they are affectionately known is a small Parrot whose natural habitat extends from
Panama to Peru.

They are basically rain forest dwellers but their range extends up into the mountains.  They spend their
days foraging and playing under the cover of the canopy of the forest provided by the dense foliage.
They are a quiet little parrot not given to loud squawking like their more raucous cousins the Amazons
and Macaws.  When danger is near they freeze in place, often hanging upside down, looking like a leaf,
and hoping not to be seen.

As pets they are delightful companions having a quiet soft voice yet liking to make chattering or chortling
sounds similar to a small giggle.  They are capable of mimicking words and small phrases like Hello,
Good Morning, What cha doin?,  pretty baby, etc.  They have sweet cheerful personalities and are laid
back in their attitude, they don’t get startled or ruffle their feathers easily.  They love a sprayed shower
bath reminiscent of the tropical showers in their home land.  They will hang up side down with their eyes
shut and spread their wings out to catch every drop of “rain”.  They look like they are in ecstasy, and
when they are thru, they flap furiously to shake off the excess water and “share” the shower.

They would rather climb on tree branches and up and down ropes that to fly from place to place, so a
cage that allows them a good deal of horizontal movement as well as vertical is welcomed by them.
They are also fond of swings and ladders and hanging chains with toys hanging off them.  Shreddable
toys afford hours of activity.

While they are happy to “hang out” or to cuddle with their human flock members, they are quite capable
of entertaining themselves for hours at a time without being demanding of your time and attention.  We
recognize that you may think us a bit biased, but we think they are absolutely the perfect small addition
to a family or as a companion to a single person.

They come in a variety of jewel tone colors like Emerald or Normal Green, Turquoise, and Sapphire or
Cobalt Blue, not to leave out the bright lemon yellow, avocado and kiwi green, or Twilight Blue.  They
like a varied diet of fresh or frozen vegetables, and fruits as well as seed and pellets.  An occasional
treat of Birdy Bread or a pasta and bean/grain cooked mix is always savored too.
